Negative Effects of Divorce on Children:

The report depicted that, children of divorce usually indicated the following effects:

Disobedience:

Children of divorce become so disobedient, that they may act exactly opposite from what the parent is asking them to do. Some times, lack of money or its profusion pose a problem for child.

If child support, alimony or financial assistance is insufficient and exerts a financial stress on the parent, it has direct affect on the children of divorce as well.

Hostility:

Even though courts offer visitation rights to either of the parents, at times the parent having visitation rights tries to take children on own side. As a result, arguments, fights and tension occur between estranged parents. The children, as a result, tend to believe that they are responsible for everything. They become hostile and stop interacting with parents to obtain relief from the constant bickering.

Thus, parents need to take a firm hold of the situation and see to it that they do not create problems that make their children become aloof and hostile.

Other effects:

Change in surroundings:

Children of divorce have to adjust to an altogether different schedule after their parents get divorced. At times, parents relocate to a new place and this means a new school, new friends, mealtime and new bedtime for the child. Children usually hate new surroundings and might take more time to adjust. Some children who had great bonding with their cousins, grandparents and relatives will find such changes irritating.

Drop in academics:

Children of divorce develop negative attitude towards their class and studies and so the absenteeism rate increases. Sometimes, parents do not give adequate attention toward their homework and studies and the child fares extremely bad in exams.
